Coronation Street's Kym Ryder quits singing
12 December 2007 - Kym Ryder has vowed never to revive her singing career.
The 'Coronation Street' star - who rose to fame with pop group Hear'Say after winning ITV reality show 'Popstars' - has revealed she hates the music industry too much to ever go back.
Kym told Britain's Inside Soap magazine: "I love singing, but hate the music industry. If I sing now it's because I want to, not because I have to. I love my work and get to be with my family, too. I did so much travelling when I was a pop star."
The 31-year-old actress - who lives with her children, Emily 10, and David, 12, and actor husband Jack Ryder - is now happy playing Corrie barmaid Michelle Connor and was thrilled to win a National Television Award for Most Popular newcomer this year.
She said: "I've been extremely lucky. I'm absolutely thrilled that I won at the NTAs, but it was a complete shock. Although I've worked hard, it's really all down to being given an opportunity. I'm so chuffed to just be here.
"I think the journey I went through with 'Popstars' and everything that came afterwards was what I had to do to arrive here. Everybody needs their break, and their break mine was 'Popstars'.
"All those experiences brought me to where I am right now."
