Kym Ryder says she's similar to her Corrie character

22 October 2007 - Coronation Street's Kim Ryder has explained that her experience as a teenage mother helps her play her current role as Michelle Connor.

The 31-year-old told the Sun that "there are definitely similarities" between her real-life personality and her onscreen character, including the fact that they were both teenage mums.

Kim was 18 when she gave birth to her son, David. She also had a daughter, Emily, when she was 21.

She continued: "Apparently, I can be feisty too - just like Michelle - and we're both very sarcastic, so it's not too much of a stretch to play her.

"I'm also a little bit touchy, although I might not be as touchy as Michelle. And we both come from very tight-knit families."

The former Hear'Say singer is currently nominated for Best Newcomer at the National Television Awards, where she will compete against Hollyoaks' Gemma Merna, Joseph Gilgun from Emmerdale and EastEnders' Jo Joyner.

Kym, who is married to ex-EastEnders actor Jack Ryder, has already had success from her Corrie role, winning Best Newcomer at the TV Quick Awards and British Soap Awards.
