Ant and Dec win big at TV awards

1 November 2007 - Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly - better known to fans as Ant and Dec - picked up three gongs at the National TV Awards.

They beat competition from the likes of The Apprentice to win Most Popular Reality Programme for I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.

The Geordie duo also picked up Most Popular Entertainment Show for Saturday Night Takeaway and beat Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton and Paul O'Grady to win Most Popular Entertainment Presenter(s).

Other stars who were winners at the awards include EastEnders' Lacey Turner for Most Popular Actress and Coronation Street's Kym Ryder for Most Popular Newcomer.

The former Hear'Say singer admitted that she struggled with her acceptance speech, telling the BBC: "I didn't know what to say and my mouth just lost all the saliva."

David Tennant, who had been considered a favourite to win, succeeded in capturing the Most Popular Actor award. He admitted that it was "overwhelming" to make his way to the stage with so many fans in the crowd screaming his name.

Slightly less gentlemanly was Simon Cowell, who - upon accepting the Most Popular Talent Show gong for X Factor - addressed a message to a rival, saying: "Andrew Lloyd Webber - there's nothing wrong with losing. It's the taking part that matters."
