Comic Sean Hughes joins Corrie
Irish funnyman Sean Hughes is to join the cast of Coronation Street as the soap's latest guest star.
The comedian, who is currently starring in the ITV1 drama The Last Detective, made his name as a team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks before taking a foray into acting.
The 41-year-old will be playing Pat, a new love interest for the lonely Eileen, played by Sue Cleaver, who quickly falls for the Irishman's charms.
As with any new cast member in a soap, Pat's character comes with a typical "shady past" and there is more to him than meets the eye.
A Corrie insider told the Sun: "Pat asks Eileen out on a date and they have a brilliant time. She's hoping that something serious will develop between them."
However, Pat neglects to mention he is married, which causes some problems.
A source told the Mirror: "They meet in the Rovers and get on like a house on fire. It's not very long before they are enjoying steamy sessions."
They added: "He and Sue have a good chemistry to make the story work really well."
