Depp's relief at daughter's recovery

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has said he only got through his daughter's E.coli scare due to her strength and courage.

Two months ago, the Hollywood heartthrob had been filming Sweeney Todd in London when his seven-year-old daughter Lily-Rose was struck down with potentially fatal E.coli poisoning and had to spend nine days in hospital.

Johnny and his long-term partner Vanessa Paradis cancelled everything, including filming, to be at their daughter's bedside.

"It gave us a great scare," Johnny told the Daily Mirror.

"What got us through this wasn't the strength of Vanessa or me but our daughter and her incredible ability to make us feel OK even though she was very unwell. She was super-strong."

Despite the E.coli bacteria shutting down Lily-Rose's kidneys, Johnny says she has recovered "beautifully" and is already back to her old self.

A relieved Johnny described the scare as "a reminder to us of how lucky we are to be able to breathe, walk, talk, think and surround ourselves with people we love".

The 43-year-old actor, who received a whopping $78 million (£40 million) for his role in the second Pirates of the Caribbean film, is now back filming the movie version of the hit Broadway musical which tells the gruesome tale of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
