Jude Law and Norah Jones at Cannes 2007

Jude opens Cannes with latest flick

Jude Law's latest film, My Blueberry Nights, was the first to be premiered at the 60th Cannes Film Festival this week.

The movie also stars singer Norah Jones in her first acting role, along with Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman.

Norah plays a New Yorker who travels across the US after being dumped by her boyfriend and has a steamy on-screen kiss with Jude, although she admitted she was terrified about both the role and the kiss.

But director Wong Kar Wai claims he had to have Norah in the film after hearing her sultry voice from records.

He told Access Hollywood: "Basically, when you listen to her voice only, without seeing her face, you can have a kind of a story out of it."

The film is currently favourite to win the coveted Palme d'Or, although it is up against 21 other films for the prize, including Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof.

Cannes' famous film festival is celebrating its 60th anniversary in style, with some of the biggest names in Hollywood attending the event in the French town, such as Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
