Soap stars hit the big screen

Two former soap favourites will hit the big-time with new British teen comedy Popcorn.

Jack Ryder, who left EastEnders five years ago, and ex-Hollyoaks vixen Jodi Albert have landed the lead roles in the flick.

Popcorn will be a film debut for both and should make waves since previews have included gratuitous lesbianism, regular sex references and over-the-top swearing.

Jack, who is married to former HearSay singer Kym Marsh, plays a Manga comic-obsessed geek who falls for the girl of his dreams, played by Jodi, but only has one day to try and woo her.

The romantic comedy will see Jack playing a more light-hearted role compared to his EastEnders character Jamie Mitchell, but he told the Sun: "I wasn't looking to get a laugh every second. I played the role straight and dead-pan - I tend to get more results this way."

Jodi said that the obligatory kissing scene was the part she found hardest, but added: "My
boyfriend Kian (from Westlife) is cool with it because he's seen loads of my on-screen kisses. He knows it's just a job.

"When I see screaming girls around him, it's flattering. Let's face it; they're not going to scream at us forever when we're old."

Popcorn will be in UK cinemas from March 2.
