11 October 2007 - Adele Silva wants to become the new assistant on 'Doctor Who'.

The 'Emmerdale' star has confessed she longs to star as The Doctor's new sexy sidekick so she can quit her role as scheming Kelly Windsor in the ITV soap for good.

Kelly told Britain's Soap Life magazine: "I'm not going back to 'Emmerdale'. I want more serious acting roles like being the assistant on 'Doctor Who'.

"I didn't argue with the 'Emmerdale' producers when I left because they have been so good to me."

The 26-year-old's revelation will shock ITV bosses, who believed Adele was planning to take a one year break from the show.

Adele first joined 'Emmerdale' when she was just 13, but left in 2000 before returning to the cast five years later.

In an hour-long special yesterday (09.10.07) Kelly was ditched at the altar by fiancé Jimmy King after he discovered she had kissed Eli Dingle.

Adele recently finished as the runner-up to former boxer Barry McGuigan on the third series of reality cooking contest 'Hell's Kitchen'.
