X Factor: Futureproof become futureless
6 November 2007 - X Factor favourites Futureproof made a shock exit from The X Factor on Saturday night after finding themselves in the bottom two alongside fellow joint-favourites Hope.
Both acts were tipped to make the final stages of the show but in the end the public votes proved that Simon Cowell's groups - made up of singers who had auditioned for the show as solo performers and been rejected at the boot camp stage - weren't as popular as we all imagined.
Sharon's remaining act, Alisha Bennett, was expected to finally be given the boot after being saved by the judges the previous two weeks, but this week she managed to win viewers over.
Unlike Futureproof - the five-piece didn;t really shine with their version of Can't Take My Eyes Off You, with Louis criticising the band's non-dancing. Hope also dodgily performed the Madonna song Hanky Panky as the two bands sang for survival.
Afterwards, both Louis and Sharon voted to send Futureproof home while Dannii chose Hope - leaving Simon in the unenviable position of having to sack one of his own acts.
But he was stone-faced in choosing Futureproof to go, saying: "I'm going to make this decision on who I think has got the best long term potential."
Band member Sean said: "We're shocked but everybody's game was higher, tonight."
"There's a reason we're called Futureproof," other Futureproofer Aaron told host Dermot O'Leary, "this is only the beginning for us and you know that as well as we do."
Dannii Minogue remains the only judge with all three of her acts still in the competition, with just 8 acts remaining.
