X Factor - Futureproof: The interview
6 November 2007 - Futureproof are the latest rejects on the reality karaoke show X Factor.
Here, the lads speak about their exit, the stiff competition on the show, Simon Cowell and what the future looks like for them...
How do you feel?
We're excited about the future. And we're a bit tired. I went straight to bed, we've got an early start today and we had to pack in between as well...
How did it feel singing with the big band?
It was amazing, although the song wasn't really my bag. Standing on the stage was just amazing and have all the boys supporting each other, I felt like we were at home on The X Factor stage.
Is there anything you would have done differently?
Not really. We maybe would have spoken up more a little bit more, rather than going along with the flow about our performances. We should have spoken up more.
What was it like to have to sing a second time for your survival?
We had a quick chat before we went back on, we worked for it and we gave it our best, 100%. We performed our hearts out.
How are you feeling about the result?
We're all gutted and shocked but at the same time we're looking forward to the next challenge and we will be going full-pelt at it now really.
Was there still a lot of competition between Futureproof and Hope in the end?
It wasn't so much competition really as the fact we just disliked each other. We just didn't like them and they didn't like us.
To go up against them in the bottom two must've been hard…
Out everybody, I would have rather not lost to them. But it's part of the game.
And Simon had to choose between his two bands… that must've been hard for you?
Yes, but I respect him for that really, and the decision he made. He obviously knows what he's doing and knows his plan for the future. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if it had gone to deadlock, if the result had to have been decided upon by the public vote. It wouldn't have been easier for us if we'd known if that was what the public would have chosen. But we knew the score when we got involved, so we can't complain.
What's next for the band?
We have been asked to perform on The X Factor tour. And we'll try to get into a studio of some description and get some of our own material down. But it's not going to be the last that people see of us.
You were brought together from different parts of the country. How will that work?
I think we'll get a flat in London or near London. We're going to have a little bit of time off, see our families, but we'll arrange that in the next few weeks.
Out of all of the acts, you guys knuckled down to business, and even started your clothing line!
We're all very determined and that helps us in a big way, we're all passionate about music, we're not so much passionate about the money side but we hope our love of music will come across.
When you carry on, will you definitely remain a five piece...?
Yes, we all want it. We all sat down as soon we were thrown out really, that was the first thing we discussed. Each of the members is up for giving it 100%. I think it will definitely pay off if we all put 100% in.
You all entered the contest as solo artists, you wouldn't be in a band if it hadn't been for Louis' experiment…?
Yeah they know what they were doing, they obviously were careful to select the right guys for the band, we proved ourselves and proved ourselves as well.
Weighing everything up, are you glad you had The X Factor experience?
Yeah, definitely. We won't be back next year, but it was a good experience to have.
What will you miss about the house?
Same Difference, Beverley, Niki, all the acts, basically. In fact, all the contestants except Hope.
And what will your housemates miss about you guys?
They'll miss Aaron's cooking for definite, they'll miss Sean's piano playing, Matt's funniness, having little chats with Rich, and I'm just happy guys most days, so maybe they'll miss that. Or maybe they will be having a party now, I dunno!
Have you spoken to Hope since your exit?
Yes briefly. Phoebe said "Well, at least we'll get your room now". So I decided at that point it might be best to walk away...!
