Spice Girls' Mel C's eating disorder fears
23 October 2007 - Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm has discussed her fears that a Spice Girls reunion could trigger a relapse of her eating disorders.
Sporty Spice told Closer magazine that fear was her first reaction when her bandmates approached her to discuss the reunion tour.
"The depression and everything else was in my thoughts during the decision process of whether to do the tour. It took me a long time to decide because it was something I never ever wanted to do," she explained.
While a member of the Spice Girls, Mel C battled depression and different forms of eating disorders.
"I went to the gym and trained constantly. I wasn't eating properly. I wanted to get as perfect as I could, knowing perfection is impossible, and that got me very sick," she said, describing her low point.
She added that she has now "been on the straight and narrow" for four years.
However, the 33-year-old said that she eventually decided that she was mentally and physically healthy enough to handle the pressures of appearing with the girl group again.
In a separate interview with Cosmopolitan, Mel C recently affirmed that she is pleased she has an extensive gay fan base.
