Coronation Street star dreads Tina O'Brien's farewell
20 September 2007 - Coronation Street actress Helen Worth has spoken about her sadness regarding Tina O'Brien's departure from the soap.
Helen, who plays Gail Platt, told the Sun that she is dreading her onscreen daughter's farewell and would rather avoid it altogether.
"I think I'd prefer not to be there on Tina's last day of filming as Sarah Platt. It will be very emotional for us all," she said.
"It's fantastic for Tina that she's going on to new challenges. It will be like losing a child, but at least she will be able to stay with me when she's working in London."
Tina revealed in April that she would leave the soap by the end of this year.
Helen, who has spent 33 years on Corrie, explained that she has enjoyed taking part in recent storylines - particularly one in which her granddaughter Bethany swallows an ecstasy tablet and ends up in hospital.
The 56-year-old expressed her gratitude towards her "TV family", adding that Jack Shepherd - who plays David Platt - is likely to be nominated for an acting award this year.
In 2006, Helen was acknowledged with an Outstanding Achievement award at the Inside Soap Awards for her work on Corrie.
