Macca to land Live Earth slot?
With three days to go before a worldwide gig to highlight climate change, Sir Paul McCartney has been asked to join the Live Earth line-up.
Last-minute talks between event organisers including former US vice president Al Gore and the former Beatle singer may see Macca join a star-studded bill at Wembley Stadium which already features Madonna, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Razorlight.
A source told the Mirror: "It's true that Paul has been asked to take part. He said that the cause is very close to his heart and he's very impressed with what Al Gore's been doing to highlight it, but he's still deciding whether he can do it at the moment."
According to the newspaper, the approach came after Al Gore heard that the former Wings star had been an enthusiastic fan of his climate change film An Inconvenient Truth.
Mr Gore has turned away from mainstream politics to become a lead commentator on the dangers posed by climate change, embarking on an extended lecture tour which features in the movie.
And the Live Earth series of concerts is set to increase awareness of the problems further, with 150 artists set to play in eight concerts spread over the world.
Acts including Madonna, Keane, Snow Patrol and the Beastie Boys are signed up to hit the stage in London, while groups such as Bon Jovi and The Police will headline the New York concert, Joss Stone will perform in South Africa and rapper Snoop Dogg will play in Hamburg, Germany.
