Kate Garraway in planning row
28 September 2007 - TV presenter Kate Garraway has been involved in an argument with her neighbours regarding her roof.
The GMTV breakfast star constructed a nursery - worth £50,000 - for her daughter Darcey before she had been given planning permission, the Daily Mail reports.
She was refused permission but began building regardless - and a retrospective planning application was submitted when construction was completed in November 2006.
However, the 39-year-old's neighbours complained that the home improvements violated conservation guidelines and impeded their view.
Garraway and her psychotherapist husband Derek Draper have now agreed to reduce the extension at a cost of £50,000 - which means that the total bill for the nursery has doubled.
Salah Kattani from Islington Council's planning department told the publication: "The roof will have to come down. It will be rebuilt with more of a slope, angled away and at a reduced height.
Meanwhile, Draper was quoted as saying: "This was never us versus the neighbours. It was simply about common sense. Our proposal was always 98 per cent invisible and now it is 99 per cent invisible."
Garraway is currently appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, along with stars such as Kelly Brook and Penny Lancaster.
