Cowell shoots up rich list
Square-haired music mogul Simon Cowell has leapfrogged up Britain's rich list after gaining more than £40 million in one year.
The Sunday Times Rich List puts the 47-year-old X Factor judge at 700th in the wealth league table, shooting up from 944th last year.
And much of this is down to his success in the US with American Idol, which has helped him amass an estimated wealth of around £100 million.
Other stars from the music world making the list include Robbie Williams, who is behind Cowell in the table at a lowly 755, with the man from Stoke increasing his wealth by £5 million last year.
This comes despite Robbie doing his best to scupper his year with the flop of his latest album and an expensive stay in rehab.
David Beckham managed to earn a mammoth £25 million in the last year, taking his total wealth up to £112 million and his ranking to 619.
The richest man in Britain is still Lakshmi Mittal, the steel magnate, who increased his earnings to a paltry £19 billion this year, up from £14.9 billion the previous year.
