Shilpa Shetty still suffering from kiss

28 September 2007 - Celebrity Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty was held at an airport in Mumbai recently, regarding obscenity charges.

The problems stem from an incident in which the Bollywood actress was kissed by Hollywood star Richard Gere during a public event five months ago.

During an Aids awareness ceremony, Gere surprised Shetty by embracing her and kissing her on stage. Conservative Hindus responded by claiming the behaviour had violated Indian anti-obscenity laws.

Initially, an arrest warrant was issued which prohibited Shetty from leaving the country, but the order was later overturned by the Indian supreme court.

Apparently, while the 32-year-old actress was on her way to Berlin to attend the opening of the musical Miss Bollywood, when she was stopped by officials

Her spokesman Dale Bhagwagar explained: "She called me in the middle of the night and was in tears.

"I can understand something like this if I'd committed a criminal offence. But what was my offence, when I'm just an actor, going to perform a musical on foreign land," she reportedly said.

He added that after lengthy questioning, Shetty was allowed to join her dance troupe.

Shetty won Celebrity Big Brother in January, receiving 63 per cent of the final vote.
