Dancing On Ice - Torvill and Dean provide panto fodder

17 January 2008 - Actors in a panto presentation of Aladdin kept the audience laughing with their take on a classic Torvill and Dean performance.

Playing to a packed audience at the Maltings, Spittal Variety Group's Simon Lendals and Nancy Steele offered their version of the routine that earned the ice dancers a gold medal at the winter Olympics in 1984.

The performance, set to Bolero - the same tune used by the figure skaters in their medal-winning performance - was "certainly memorable" and "rocked" the theatre with laughter, according to Berwick Advertiser reviewer Adam Drummond.

Last week, Hollyoaks actor Chris Fountain - who bookies are favouring to win Dancing On Ice - said he made a faux pas when he called the famous Bolero routine "the burrito".

According to Digital Spy, the ice dancing actor claimed his excuse for being unfamiliar with the iconic performance was the fact that he was born in 1987.

"I know what it is now - it's not the beef wrap they have in Mexico," he joked.

Earlier this week, the skating superstars claimed that some of the Dancing On Ice celebs can get a bit emotional when they become frustrated during rehearsals.
