Dancing On Ice - Parents proud of Susie Lipanova
1 February 2008 - The parents of professional ice skater Susie Lipanova have expressed their pride at her success.
Susie, who is currently partnered with javelin thrower Steve Backley on the show, is originally from South Shields where she used to train.
Speaking to the South Shields Gazette, Susie's parents Ann and Jeff said she used to practice everyday and has worked very hard to get where she is.
"We're so proud of her and it's brilliant to see her on television," her mum explained, adding that her daughter deserves all of the success she is experiencing.
However, given that 33-year-old Susie is married to fellow contestant Andrei Lipanov, they were worried what would happen should both of them reach the final.
"Of course we would have backed our Susie, but it would of been a little tricky. At least we don't have to worry about that now," Ann said, referring to Andrei's departure from the show alongside partner Natalie Pinkham.
The duo left the show in the second week after a skate-off with Tim Vincent and partner Victoria Borzenkova. Later that week, Michael Underwood broke his ankle and was forced to retire from the competition.
