Bye bye to EastEnders star Nana Moon
7 November 2007 - The actress who played lovable Victoria "Nana" Moon in EastEnders has passed away at the age of 78.
Hilda Braid, who appeared in the London-based soap for three years, died at Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital after being ill for a while, it was announced by a spokesperson for the facility.
A representative for EastEnders said Hilda was a "lovely actress" who enriched her role with "humour and wit".
"She was a much-loved member of our cast & everyone at EastEnders sends deepest sympathies and condolences to her family and close friends."
Her character, known as Nana Moon, was the grandmother of Alfie and Spencer Moon and great-aunt of Jake and Danny Moon.
She first appeared in 2002, with a particularly memorable episode featuring Nana and Alfie travelling to Normandy, where she visited her late husband's grave.
Hilda's last appearance in the soap was at the end of 2005, when her character made a list of everything she wanted to achieve before her death.
These included getting arrested and having a curry night with friends from Albert Square - although this ended up being a takeaway curry after Alfie put too much salt in the recipe.
