Mobile salesman wins Britain's Got Talent

Amateur opera singer Paul Potts beat hundred of other hopefuls to win ITV show Britain's Got Talent.

The 36-year-old has been rewarded with a record contract and may head into the studio as early as this week, with pop supreme and show producer Simon Cowell keen to put out an album quickly.

Paul, who had been working for Carphone Warehouse, opened the final show with an operatic performance of Nessun Dorma, which received a standing ovation from the studio audience.

And after some two million votes were counted, it was found to have been popular with the public at large as well.

The show's three judges were quick to lavish praise on Paul after he was declared the winner, with former Mirror editor Piers Morgan telling him: "You deserve it I can't think of anybody better to represent this show."

Paul was not the only winner from the show's contestants, with six-year-old Connie Talbot also being signed to Simon Cowell's record label.

The youngster made a big impression with her rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, which she had learnt singing to her terminally-ill grandmother.
