Britney: I hit rock bottom
Pop star Britney Spears has posted a message on her website telling fans about her "humbling" time in rehab.
The Toxic singer denied that she had been addicted to alcohol or suffering from depression, but admitted that she "truly hit rock bottom".
"I was like a bad kid running around with ADD," her message reads, referring to attention deficit disorder.
"I confess, I was so lost."
Britney explains that her divorce from aspiring rapper Kevin Federline, two months after she gave birth to their second child Jayden James, had a big effect on her and sent her on her spiralling course to rehab.
"I realised how much energy and love I had put into my past relationship when it was gone because I genuinely did not know what to do with myself and it made me so sad."
These feelings were only exacerbated by the media interest in her heavy partying, which she said was "actually normal for a young girl to go out after a divorce".
But she claims to have put up the barriers to the tabloids again and is no longer angry at tabloid intrusion into her life.
She admitted: "I make mistakes every day and I am sure every mistake I make will probably be on CNN or (US TV show) Good Morning America."
Britney completed a month-long stay at a Malibu rehab clinic earlier this year after her drunken partying with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan was followed by the famous head-shaving incident while fans and paparazzi looked on.
