No charges in Hugh's baked bean brouhaha

Love Actually star Hugh Grant will not be charged over allegations that he threw a tub of baked beans at a photographer.

The 46-year-old actor was arrested following a complaint from snapper Ian Whittaker alleging that he had been kicked by the star in an incident outside Hugh's west London home.

But the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has advised police not to take the case further due to insufficient evidence.

A CPS spokeswoman said: "This is because there were clear discrepancies between the accounts of independent witnesses and those of the photographers involved.

"In relation to a second allegation involving a take away food container, the CPS decided that a prosecution would not be in the public interest."

The decision was taken in part due to "the minimal nature of the alleged assault and the lack of pre-meditation on the part of Mr Grant", the spokeswoman added.

Hugh has not commented on the incident, preferring instead to focus on his love-life.

The movie star recently split from girlfriend Jemima Khan after three years together and Hugh is unhappy about being a bachelor in his 40s.

"It's true that my age sometimes worries me," he said.

"Each birthday is an almost unpleasant date - I told myself that being single in your 30s is fine, but at 46 it's a bit worrying."
