Charles criticised for Scotland flight
Prince Charles has come into criticism from environmentalists for supposed hypocrisy after he took a plane for a journey of just 500 miles.
As a regular cheerleader for the environment, the prince might have been expected to drive the distance between his Gloucestershire home Highgrove and the Scottish Highlands, but he insists he flew in order to protect his wife Camilla's health.
A source told the Daily Mail: "Although Camilla cancelled all her engagements and expected she would have recovered completely by now, she hasn't really bounced back.
"Nearly a month after her operation, she is not really feeling herself yet and is still feeling weak."
In order to give the Duchess of Cornwall the most comfort possible, Charles took a private jet and added around 15,000 kg to his carbon footprint, rather than emitting 180 kg per passenger if he had travelled by car or just 60 kg by train via London.
Joss Garman, a campaigner for green pressure group Plane Stupid, told This Is Wiltshire that the prince's decision was "frustrating and disappointing".
"This is the third time in as many months that he has taken a private jet when he could have taken a more environmentally sustainable means of transport," he added.
"This is exactly the type of unnecessary flight that we should be cutting down on."
