Update your life with a DIY makeover
If you want to look great and stay current with the latest trends, but don't know where to start, you should follow our fantastic DIY makeover tips.
It's important that you learn to update your look as often as possible - outdated make-up and tired fashions will make you look older than your years.
First, assess your needs and focus on one place to start, then everything else will fall into place.
Self assessment
Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what needs improving. Maybe your skin is looking a little tired or you're fed up of applying the same make-up. Is your lipstick shade becoming dated, or do you look 5 or 10 years older than you really feel? Once you've answered your own questions you'll know which areas to focus on.
Don't waste money on fancy new products
The main rule you should follow when it comes to buying products is to invest much of your money in core products – the ones you wear every day to enhance your eyes, hair and face, no matter where you go or what you wear. Invest in good skin care products too, so your skin is as healthy and glowing as possible.
Makeover your make-up
In order to keep your look fresh, throw away make-up that is stale and old. Make-up doesn't last forever… you should throw out mascara after three months, foundation after a year and eye shadow after two years.
Don't let your make-up add years to your face
If you're stuck in a make-up rut, chances are you've been applying make-up the same way for years. So make a few changes to strip time from your face… black eye liner can age you by ten years so switch to softer colours, such as purple or navy. And if your lip liner you use is darker than your lipstick, it makes for a heavy and dull mouth - your liner should match your lipstick perfectly!
Play with colour
Be daring and try some new shades: a lighter lipstick shade, for example, or a softer pastel shadow. Plus, you can save a few pennies by buying these from a chemist, which is a great place to experiment with colour without investing a lot of money.
Update your hair - cut and colour
The simplest way to get a new look is with a haircut – even getting rid of split ends makes a difference. Speak to a colourist at the salon too – and think about how subtle high or lowlights may transform your image for the better. It's often the simple changes that make the biggest difference!
