X Factor - Steve Brookstein rubbishes Leon Jackson

18 December 2007 - Former X Factor winner Steve Brookstein has rubbished the talents of newly-crowned champ Leon Jackson.

The 39-year-old, who won the first series of the show back in 2004, said he "just can't believe" Leon received the most votes in the final as he is "crud", Now reported.

Steve took a swipe at the youngster's singing ability mere days after the final, which saw Welsh warbler Rhydian Roberts emerge as runner-up.

"I'm sure [Leon's] a nice guy but there are so many talented people out there who don't get a chance to be heard," Steve continued.

And the singer, who was dumped by his record label eight months after winning X Factor, told the Daily Record that viewers should be made aware of what they are really watching when it comes to the series.

"A week ago Simon Cowell called a trombone a trumpet and a few weeks ago Sharon called a five-part harmony a four-part harmony," Now quoted him as telling the newspaper.

Last June, the Sun spotted Steve crooning on a P&O ferry as part of a cabaret act.

He was appearing with fellow ex-contestants Chico Slimani and Journey South.
