Big Brother Celebrity Hijack - Dermot O'Leary evicting himself

14 January 2008 - Big Brother's Dermot O'Leary has revealed he will evict himself from the franchise at the end of the current series.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the 34-year-old presenter said working on two programmes last summer - Big Brother's Little Brother and X Factor - was "absolutely brutal" and is looking forward to taking a month off to travel with his girlfriend, Dee.

Calling Big Brother the "defining show of his career", O'Leary said he hopes he won't mist up when the final episode of the series airs later this month.

"I really, really hope I don't. I'll be alright as long as some idiot doesn't do a 'best moments' thing, he admitted. "Then I'll be blubbing before I know it…"

According to the Press Association, O'Leary came in at a close second behind Ant and Dec as 2007's most-watched TV presenters.

Some 51 per cent of the nation tuned into Ant and Dec offerings Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here at least once last year, while O'Leary was watched by 50 per cent.
