Ramsay's brother sent to Bali jail

14 September 2007 - Gordon Ramsay's brother has been given a sentence of ten months in a Bali jail for drug possession.

Ronald Ramsay was arrested seven months ago after 100 mg of heroin was found in his pocket during a search in a resort town.

Under tough Indonesian narcotics laws, the 39-year-old could have faced up to ten years in jail. However, Ronald's guilty plea and expression of remorse convinced a panel of three judges to impose the ten-month sentence and a fine of £381.

Celebrity brother Gordon has previously spoken about his desire to help Ronald overcome his problems with drugs.

He told Waitrose Food Illustrated magazine: "I feel the pain, I feel it big time. I don't think that my mum at 60 should still be putting up with it.

"It is hard dealing with Ronnie. It's like having an 18-year-old to look after."

And in his autobiography, Humble Pie, Gordon admitted that he had bought Ronald heroin in order to get him to go to their father's funeral.

Recently, it was reported that Gordon is set to close his restaurant in the Connaught, which he has operated for five years.
