Eastenders' Kara Tointon splits with James Alexandrou

5 November 2007 - 'EastEnders' star Kara Tointon has split from former co-star James Alexandrou.

The couple have ended their 18-month relationship after struggling to cope with a long distance romance.

A source said: "Kara and James have been spending less and less time together and have decided to end their relationship. It's all very amicable."

The pair reportedly struggled to keep the spark in their love life after James quit his role as Albert Square's Martin Fowler in February and began touring with the Royal Shakespeare company.

Kara was also kept busy when her character Dawn Swann, fell pregnant with her married lover Rob Minter's baby and was kidnapped by his wife, Dr. May Wright.

Kara and James struggled to find time together and finally decided to call it a day last week, when Kara attended the National TV Awards alone on Wednesday (31.10.07).

Kara, 24, recently admitted she had been neglecting James because she was obsessed with her new puppy Winston.

She said: "I've just got a new puppy and he's so adorable. He's called Winston and James complains because I don't do anything apart from see him. It's really hard leaving him when I go out."
