EastEnders' Kara Tointon says babies can wait
29 October 2007 - Kara Tointon has said that she has no plans to have babies in the near future, as she is still a bit nervous about motherhood.
The 24-year-old told the Sun that although her character, Dawn Swann, is a new mum on EastEnders, she has "no experience with babies" and "the whole 'mum' thing's a bit scary".
"Wearing a pregnancy belly to make me appear pregnant did make me feel a bit broody - I do love children and I would like them one day," she admitted.
"But I still feel like I'm 18 and having a baby right now seems way too far off for me. I'm too immature for all that."
Kara is currently in a relationship with James Alexandrou, who played Martin Fowler for 11 years on EastEnders.
The actress said that the storyline involving Dawn being a single mother was a surprise, because the original idea had seen her baby snatched away by her married lover's wife.
She explained that the scenes had to be refilmed after Madeleine McCann went missing but added that she was "chuffed with the way the storyline has worked out".
Although she may not be ready for babies, Kara recently confessed that she finds it difficult to leave her new puppy alone in the house.
