Dancing On Ice - Torvill to skate without Dean

29 January 2007 - Jayne Torvill is set to ice skate without Christopher Dean for the first time in 35 years on Dancing on Ice this Sunday.

Dean is undergoing surgery to deal with a cartilage problem affecting his right knee and will be forced off the ice for at least a week.

He will still feature on the show in the forthcoming episode, but only in his mentor role, with his partner Torvill taking to the ice by herself to entertain the viewers.

Torvill has admitted feeling nervous about her first solo skate in public, adding that the routine choreographed by her partner was harder than ever.

"It'll be odd for me to see Jayne skate on her own - I'll be itching to get out there on the ice with her," Dean said.

He calmed fears by adding that the knee injury is not in any way career-threatening and promised those who love the show that he will have the skates back on very quickly.

Torvill and Dean won the gold medal for figure skating at the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo after skating to a specially condensed version of Mauirce Ravel's Bolero.
