Beales set for EastEnders gun drama

8 October 2007 - EastEnders' Beale family are set to get the shock of their lives when the stalking and kidnapping storyline involving Ian comes to a head.

Viewers will see Jane shot by estranged teenager Steven Beale after he tells Lucy, his sister, where he is keeping their father.

She runs off to get stepmother Jane after being led to the block of flats in question and a fight between father and son results in a gun going off - with shocking consequences.

The events are a culmination of a plot that saw Ian receive a series of gifts and messages purporting to be from his dead ex-wife, Cindy.

It turned out that the eerie offerings had been sent by Steven, who left Walford several years ago after finding out that Simon Wicks was his real father, rather than Ian as he had been led to believe by mother Cindy.

Ian, played by Adam Woodyatt, is now the only character remaining from the very first episode of the soap, which aired 12 years ago.

One of his most dramatic storylines saw Cindy attempt to do away with him by hiring a hitman, but this failed when the gunshot proved to be non-fatal.
