Coogan responds to Love claims

Comedian Steve Coogan has responded to allegations that he was to blame for Owen Wilson's suicide attempt.

Wedding Crashers star Wilson took an overdose of pills and slashed his wrists, after reportedly engaging in a drug binge.

Coogan's ex-girlfriend Courtney Love claimed that the 41-year-old Alan Partridge funnyman was a bad influence on Wilson, encouraging his drug use.

Love was quoted by a US magazine as saying: "Under normal circumstances I wouldn't comment, but I care too much about Owen.

"I went through it with Steve. I tried to warn Owen. I tried to warn his friends."

Coogan's spokesperson said that claims were "unfounded, unhelpful and hurtful" and added that they would seek legal advice.

Love and Coogan's relationship made front page headlines in 2005, when the News of the World reported they were together, a month after he split from former wife Caroline Hickman.
