Keira to play Princess Diana?

Actress Keira Knightley could be in line to play the part of Diana, Princess of Wales, in a biopic of the former royal.

Producers at the Cannes Film Festival have been bidding on the rights to adapt a controversial bigography of the late princess - Diana and the Paparazzi by photographers Glenn Harvey and Mark Saunders - with one leading money-man saying Keira is the hot favourite for the role.

"Already the word in Hollywood is 'get Knightley'," said film producer Quentin Reynolds.

"It's a story that has everything: pathos, tragedy, comedy, adventure and Princess Diana."

Mr Reynolds added that the film has the potential to be a bigger box office success than The Queen, which saw Dame Helen Mirren get an Oscar for her performance.

"For every pound The Queen makes, a film about Diana will make ten," he said.

The story of Diana has already been on screens before, with made-for-TV film Diana: Her True Story being the most high-profile, but this was before her death in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
