Keira wins 'eating disorder' libel battle
Actress Keira Knightley has been awarded £3,000 in damages after a Daily Mail article suggested she had an eating disorder.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star complained about the story written in January this year about the death of 19-year-old Sophie Mazurek from anorexia, which had been headlined: "If pictures like this one of Keira carried a health warning, my darling daughter might have lived."
Lawyers working for Keira said the article could be interpreted in implying that she had an eating disorder or was personally at fault for the death of young Sophie, which was "entirely false".
The slender 22-year-old has been forced to deny rumours that she suffers from an eating disorder throughout her acting career and recently told Elle magazine that the accusations had left her "devastated".
And earlier this month she bemoaned the fact that she had such a skinny figure, telling GMTV that she envied the body shape of stars like Italian model and Matrix movies actress Monica Bellucci.
Following the ruling at London's High Court, Keira will match the £3,000 damage award with her own money and donate it all to Beat, an eating disorder and mental health charity.
