Jack Ellis and Matthew Crompton to join Coronation Street

16 October 2007 - Actors Jack Ellis and Matthew Crompton are set to join the cast of Coronation Street this winter.

The pair will debut on December 3rd, playing a father and son named Harry and Dan Mason, who are both bookies and run a chain of betting shops.

They will also stir up a bit of trouble with their considerable interest in women and their tendency to veer dangerously close to breaking the law.

A Corrie spokesperson told the Mirror: "The bookies will be a colourful addition and will ruffle a few feathers."

And an insider revealed: "Harry and Dan soon make their presence felt, leaving betting shop regulars in no doubt they should not cross them."

Ellis, 51, is best known for playing villainous warder Jim Fenner - who engaged in rape, blackmail and murder in HMP Larkhall - in ITV's Bad Girls.

In his new role he will continue to act less than honourably, for example by threatening to break Lloyd Mullaney's legs for not paying a debt.

Meanwhile, Crompton previously played PC Sam Harker on The Bill, as well as Dan Morrissey in Brookside from 2002-03.
