Food Fight- Jamie Oliver uses battery farm eggs
16 January 2008 - Jamie Oliver's restaurant uses battery eggs
Jamie Oliver was left red faced yesterday when it emerged that one of his restaurants had been caught using battery farm eggs. Jamie has been attacking the battery hen industry in his latest campaign, Jamie's Fowl Dinners.
The discovery was made by a farmer who was eating in Jamie's restaurant Fifteen Cornwall at the precise time Jamie's show was being aired last Friday.
A source told the Mirror: "The farmer asked to see an egg. A waiter brought him an egg but the customer said "This is a battery chicken egg."
The source added,
"The staff were shocked a chef could make such a stupid mistake - everyone is upset and the remaining battery eggs were thrown away.
People at the restaurant feel really strongly about free range eggs and thinks Jamie's campaign is brilliant."
Jamie Oliver has told the Mirror, "I am speechless. We have cast iron rules on what any chef can and cannot buy in all Fifteens."
"I can't stop thinking it seems a coincidence this one-off has happened the week my programme airs. I've never been so disappointed. Heads will roll."
