Konnie says Huq's enough

Blue Peter's longest-serving female presenter Konnie Huq will leave the show early next year.

The 31-year-old has co-hosted the show for nearly ten years, but believes the time has come for her to move on.

"When the time comes for my last show I'll be really sad," she told CBBC Newsround.

"But I will have been here for over ten years, which is a Blue Peter record and I think it will be high time for someone else to have a go."

Konnie had recently been spotted shopping in Los Angeles, prompting speculation that she may move to America to try and break into Hollywood.

Her departure follows the BBC's decision to cut the number of Blue Peter shows to just two a week.

The long-running children's programme has now lost three of its daily shows in the last year, having previously been on every weekday.

A BBC spokesman said the move "will allow Blue Peter to concentrate on more compelling and ambitious content that is more appealing to our audience".
