X Factor - Rhydian Roberts outed as secret ginger

30 November 2007 - Peroxide-crested hopeful Rhydian Roberts has denied claims that he is a ginger traitor - following the emergence of photos of him as a youngster.

The X Factor star, who is a red-hot favourite to make it to the grand final of the all-singing talent show, has hit back at claims that he has hidden his copper-topped past with his current shock of platinum locks.

According to the Daily Mail, a series of photographs of Rhydian as a child and in his rugby playing teenage years prove that the singer was not always as blonde as he is today.

However, this is something that the contestant has told the newspaper he was never trying to hide.

"I used to be a ginger child & When I grow a beard, it's very much ginger," he said.

He added that he was happy about his roots and that should the look come back into fashion he would not be afraid to sport a carrot-top.

"I'm not betraying my ginger roots. Over the years my hair has changed colour, I want to say thankfully, but actually ginger's good."

Over the course of this year's series, Roberts has performed tracks including The Phantom of the Opera, You Raise Me Up and Go West.
