Blur man's Oasis jealousy

Blur bassist Alex James has put aside old Britpop feuds and admitted he wishes his band had written Oasis' Wonderwall.

The musician, 38, is a member of the four-piece who went head-to-head with the Manchester rockers for the number one spot in 1995.

But while Blur's Country House won out against Roll With It, Alex confessed to being a fan of Wonderwall, which was the next Oasis single released in the UK.

"The first time I heard it, I thought it was a really great song. I wish I'd written it to be honest," he said.

"Liam Gallagher has got a great voice and I think that's their finest moment."

However, the rivalry between the two bands lives on, with Alex recently saying that beating Oasis to the top of the charts at the height of Britpop was one of the highlights of his career.

"I can't deny it, sitting in the car and hearing that we'd won the battle, I felt very smug," he wrote in his book Bit of a Blur.

"I couldn't stop smirking for weeks afterwards and there was a lot of satisfaction in knowing how upset Oasis were about it."
