George Harrison

Aged-rocker super-group tops the charts

A collection by classic super-group The Travelling Wilburys has debuted at number one in the UK album chart.

The group was made up of heavyweight stars such as George Harrison of the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty of the Heartbreakers and Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra.

But despite some members having passed on and their recording work being nearly 20 years old, the Collection album proved popular among shoppers - beating competition from Bon Jovi's new album Lost Highway and the Police's Greatest Hits.

"Here's to George, Roy and the Boys, my favourite guys. Congratulations Wilburys," Olivia Harrison, George Harrison's wife, told the BBC about the collection reaching number one.

Rihanna still holds the number one single slot with her hit Umbrella, despite the White Stripes' new track Icky thump seeing an improvement from 13 to two over the week.

She also held off the winner of BBC show Any Dream Will Do, Lee Mead, whose version of the same musical number reached 18 on downloads alone and has been released in the build up to Lee's stint on the West End stage later this year.
