Stephen Fry up for an Emmy
9 October 2007 Comedian and actor Stephen Fry has been nominated for the best documentary award at the upcoming Emmys.
The Secret Life Of A Manic Depressive was a two-part series about the bipolar condition, a disorder which Fry suffers from himself.
In the series, Fry detailed his suicide attempt in 1995 and also spoke about having to cope with continued mood swings.
Other bipolar celebrities joined Fry in the documentary such as Carrie Fisher, Richard Dreyfuss, Tony Slattery and Russell Brand.
Speaking to the BBC about the programme, Fry said: "We've tried to approach the condition from all kinds of angles. We've looked at the issue of self-medication. How so many people try and do the one thing they can in our culture that allows them to control their moods, however detrimentally in the end, with street drugs and alcohol."
Fry is not the only Brit to be up for an award with Victoria Wood and Jim Broadbent both also up for a gong.
Wood has been nominated in the best actress category for her appearance in Housewife 49, while Broadbent is up for best actor for his part in The Street.
The BBC show How To Solve A Problem Like Maria? has also been nominated for best non-scripted entertainment award.
