Sir Michael Caine's EastEnd job

Sir Michael Caine is reportedly in talks to appear in 'EastEnders'.

The 74-year-old Oscar winner is a big fan of the hit BBC soap and has previously said he would love to work alongside old friend Barbara Windsor.

A source said: "Michael watches 'EastEnders' whenever he is in the country - and he gets hooked on the storylines really quickly! He said he would love to be involved in the show in some way.

"He told me that working in the Queen Vic would be his ideal role!"

Barbara - who plays Albert Square's Peggy Mitchell - is extremely excited about the prospect of working with Michael.

She said: "I'd adore Michael to come in!"

The 'Italian Job' star wouldn't be the first acting veteran to swap the silver screen for a soap role - Sir Ian McKellen appeared in ITV's 'Coronation Street' in 2005 as "dodgy novelist" Mel Hutchwright.
