Jeremy Kyle defends his show

26 September 2007 - Jeremy Kyle has defended his talk show, following harsh comments from a judge during a court case related to the programme.

After fining a guest £300 for head-butting his romantic adversary in the studio, judge Alan Berg claimed that The Jeremy Kyle Show engaged in "human bear-bating which goes under the guise of entertainment".

In response, Kyle launched a defence of his show, telling the Daily Mirror that he was proud of what it accomplishes.

"I'm not there to be liked. I'm there to tell the truth. If I've found out you're sleeping with your wife's sister, of course I'm not going to be your favourite person," he remarked.

"Some will always think I've got the eyes of Satan - others will think I'm a TV god. People have the right to criticise."

He added that people should be prepared to face criticism for their actions, especially if they are the one who asked to be helped in the first place.

Kyle said that the behind-the-scenes team "work hard" to support and help their guests.

An ITV spokesperson also said that it did not agree with the judge's description of The Jeremy Kyle Show.
