Corrie's Jack Shepherd shocked by character's antics

17 October 2007 - Coronation Street actor Jack Shepherd confessed that he is "blown away" by some of his character's behaviour.

The 19-year-old told the Daily Star that his character David Platt is seeking attention with his destructive stunts, which include nearly killing his niece with an ecstasy tablet and trying to ruin his sister's wedding.

"It really shocks me every time. I'm always blown away by the stuff he's going to do. I can't believe they've thought up some of the things," he admitted.

Jack explained that he only feels sorry for his character "in a way", saying that his problems probably stem from incidents the past, including Richard Hillman trying to kill him.

He also said that to create David's creepy demeanour, he takes villainous inspiration from the likes of Jack Nicholson, Hannibal Lecter and Robert Knepper in Prison Break.

However, the teenager claimed that people he meets are usually supportive of his character, saying: "I'm expecting sooner or later for people to shout at me. But they always seem to be on my side."

Last month, Jack told how he found it difficult to cry during emotional scenes on the soap, requiring up to 20 minutes to successfully shed a tear.
