Nicole's upcoming proposal

Rocker Joel Madden has publicly divulged that he is going to propose to his pregnant girlfriend, Nicole Richie.

The Good Charlotte singer let slip that a proposal was in the works on US chat show Live! With Regis and Kelly.

Trying to tease out some information about his love life, host Regis Philbin asked Joel: "You're going to present her, maybe, with & a little ring or something?"

A surprised Joel, who was on stage with his band, replied: "I was hoping it would be a surprise, but I guess it's not now."

The 28-year-old also explained that he was reading advice books about how to be a good father.

Nicole, who is four-and-a-half months pregnant, is due to start a four-day sentence for driving under the influence of drugs on September 28th.

Earlier this month, she spoke about how she wants to be the kind of mother her child can look up to.
