Paul Potts

Paul Potts: By Royal Command

Sunday 16 December 2007 5:30pm - 6:30pm on ITV1.

Former mobile phone salesman turned number one singer Paul Potts is to be the subject of an exclusive ITV1 documentary, Paul Potts: By Royal Command.

This one off documentary will give an exclusive insight into how Paul's life has changed since he walked onto the Britain's Got Talent stage in Cardiff and performed Nessun Dorma in front of judges Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden. The show will document his triumph over adversity from being on the brink of bankruptcy to achieving international success on the back of one audition.

Working as a salesman at the Carphone Warehouse, Paul had always dreamt of becoming an opera singer, but following bouts of illness, a bad bike accident and huge debts of £30k, Paul's confidence was at an all-time low and he was ready to give up. But one moment changed everything.

Described by Simon Cowell as "one of the most incredible auditions I've ever witnessed", Paul Potts' amazing performance of Nessun Dorma propelled him on to become the winner of Britain's Got Talent, and he became a global superstar overnight.

Paul Potts: By Royal Command follows Paul's incredible story from its humble beginnings in Port Talbot, Wales, to National success on Britain's Got Talent, to international number ones, all the way to the stage of the Royal Variety Performance.

In just six months, Paul's had over 150 million hits on YouTube, a number one album in 13 countries, an interview on Oprah at her personal request and this December will have an audience with Her Majesty, The Queen.

Now, with interviews from Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, Paul's family and friends, supporters and doubters, we find out why this seemingly ordinary man has captured the imagination of so many people across the world.

Talking about the documentary, Paul says: "My life has changed so much in the past six months and in such amazing ways. I'm finally doing something I love. I thought nothing could top having 13 number ones but I'm shell-shocked at the fact that someone would want to make a documentary about me."
