Beautiful Barcelona
Not only is Barcelona a thriving European city - Spain's second largest – but it is also close to the Mediterranean, allowing visitors to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life to relax at a nearby beach.
For a starting point, a stroll along Barcelona's main boulevard is essential. Stretching from the centre of the city to the waterfront, the pedestrian-only Las Ramblas is a hive of activity with its outdoor markets, shops, restaurants and cafes buzzing at all hours.
Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia basilica is a modern architectural masterpiece which dominates the city's skyline. Other works of art can be enjoyed at the Picasso Museum, which houses collections of paintings, drawings and sketches from the early years of the famous Spanish painter.
The Olympic Quarter of Barcelona was created for the 92 Olympics, and 15 years after the event the area is still thriving as a popular night spot. The Military Museum lies here too, from which a fine panoramic view of the city, the sea and the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed.
