X Factor - Fearne Cotton interview
September 7 2007 - Fearne Cotton is the new presenter of the Xtra Factor, taking over from Ben Shephard. But what does she think of her new role? She tells us...
Are you excited to be joining the show this year?
Yeah! I have always watched the show so it's amazing and weird to be involved this year.
Is it true you will be bringing your match making skills to The X Factor?
Yes, for a section of the show I'll be bringing viewers "Cotton Buddies" my own dating strand. I realised a lot of the people who are sitting in the holding area waiting to audition are single and bored. So I wander around and try and set people up whilst they wait. It's fun and takes their minds off being nervous!
What else can we look forward to on this year's The Xtra Factor?
The return of the Walsh. It's so nice to have him back. Also Dermot who I love! We have a special X Factor hand shake we do when we see each other which is way geeky, but I love it!
After seeing the auditions is there one particular category you think we should look out for?
The new age category which starts at 14 is unbelievable - there has been some great talent.
Who were the most memorable auditionees for you (good and bad)?
I loved a woman called Emily who didn't stop talking. Even when I'd walked away she carried on chatting. She told me she had visited other planets, that she was Russian Royalty and that I would never succeed in Germany. WOW! I also really loved this sister girl group who you should watch out for. Their voices are amazing and they are such lovely girls.
How have you been getting on with the Judges?
I LOVE them! Sharon and I have a good gossip and laugh, and little Louis is the sweetest man ever. He's always asking if I'm OK and enjoying myself. Dannii is so sweet too and really settling in well. Cowell really
makes me laugh! He's a big softie in real life.
Things have been known to get a bit heated during the live shows - how do you intend to keep the Judges in line on The Xtra Factor sofa?
I intend to NOT keep them in line. My fave bits are when they all argue and disagree so I will be positively encouraging it!
What would your audition song be?
A rap. I can't sing for toffee so maybe some Jay-Z. Haha!
