X Factor - The lowdown on Bad Lashes
Monday, 6 October 2008
Bad Lashes, a four piece girl group from the North East, are overjoyed after landing a place in the X Factor finals as they didn't get great compliments from the judges at first.
Emily McNamee, Sam Bennett, Sophie Wilson and Stacey Lincoln all from Co Durham were told by Louis Walsh in their first audition: "It’s like four hairdressers trying to be a girl band."
Simon Cowell added: "You’ve over thought all of this girls, it’s all too thought out and methodical."
But they eventually won Louis Walsh over at the Judges Houses stage. Let's find out a bit about each of the girls in the Group...
Sam Bennett
21 year-old Sam from Durham never felt she had a good singing voice until her mum and friends persuaded her to join Bad Lashes, although she calls herself a toilet singer.
National Express Customer Service advisor Sam feels she’s the person in the group who lacks the most confidence but the other girls claim she’s the loud one in the band.
Her family feels Sam's confidence and voice is growing every time she performs with the girls in Bad Lashes and Sam feels that the group is making them a stronger unit together each time they sing.
Stacey Lincoln
Shop assistant Stacey auditioned as a solo artist for The X Factor in series one but the nervous 16 years-old was rejected as the judges didn't think she was ready.
She decided not to audition ever again but when she joined Bad Lashes the rest of the girls changed her mind... Stacey is happy she was persuaded to have another go and she’s really excited about their possible X Factor journey.
Stacey also has a keen interest in show jumping and once competed nationally, reaching 9th in the country.
She is known as the sweet one of the group, but the rest of the girls call her posh spice!
Sophie Wilson
Sophie is the only one in the band not from Durham - the 23 year-old is from Hartlepool but met the rest of the girls at theatre school where they bonded immediately.
he currently sings in clubs in her local area and would call herself a jazz style singer. Although she’s tried to break into the music world as a soloist for years Sophie has never had any success.
But she now thinks as a strong girl group they might stand a better chance.
Sophie claims her granddad is her inspiration and the source of her musical talent as he was also a singer.
Sophie reckons she is the chatty one of the group. She has a long-term boyfriend of 6 years.
Emily MacNamee
Durham girl Emily runs a coffee shop when she's not singing and prides herself on coming from a really close family who are very supportive of her musical dreams.
Emily's a go-getter, having applied for a business bank loan a few years ago to start up her own café in her home town.
She currently runs a successful coffee shop but her mum has promised to help run the shop whilst Emily is on the X Factor finals.
Two years ago she auditioned for The X Factor as a soloist but was rejected after making the final 30. But she has always been musical and has auditioned for various music events over the years.
It was Emily’s idea to create Bad Lashes and she immediately enlisted her best mate Sam Bennett. She then asked Stacey to join them and also contacted her theatre school pal Sophie.
Emily is known as the flirty one of the group.
