X Factor - Here's Spanish sensation Ruth Lorenzo
Monday, 6 October 2008
Ruth Lorenzo is a 25 year-old Spanish PR executive who dazzled judges with her Mediterranean variations of pop songs throughout the competition.
At the Judges Houses stage, Ruth gave Dannii's judging assistant Emma Bunton goose bumps with a sublime Anglo-Spanish version of True Colours, thus cementing her place in the live finals.
Ruth was born in the South East of Spain and was tipped for singing success from an early age - she screamed loudly during her birth and doctors said she would be a singer.
When she was one year old, Ruth loved the film Annie and would sing along in English, even though she had no idea what the words meant.
She was six when she first heard Monserat Caballet, a Spanish opera singer, which gave her inspiration to sing opera when her mother bought her Monserat's album.
At twelve years old, Ruth moved to America with her family and this was the first time she had the opportunity to get more involved with music at school.
Phantom of the Opera
She had music lessons and won singing competitions whilst playing lead roles in My Fair Lady and Phantom of the Opera.
But when her family moved back to Spain when Ruth was 16, she had to stop getting singing lessons as they were proving too expensive.
It wasn;t long until she was noticed for her talent though, as she was approached by a rock band when she was 19 and gave up her job t the family business and follow her dream once again.
She had to adapt her voice for rock as she'd only ever sung classical music but she fitted in well and toured Spain for three years, playing countless hotels and bars.
But since the band broke up, Ruth has been looking for her big break.
And she just might get it if the public warm to her.
